Multimedia sensation Lara Croft will be making her return to gaming in the next few years. Taking place between the Survivor Trilogy and the original games, it’s being built on Unreal Engine 5, with the new owners of developers Crystal Dynamics, Embracer Group, fully behind the team to further the popular franchise.
Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise have reached the heights of entertainment media and remain a huge attraction. From the early movies that also featured the actor Daniel Craig to the most recent games and releases, Tomb Raider is as popular as ever. So, it won’t come as a surprise that fans are clamouring for info.
Allegedly, the script has been acquired and shared online for the next game, which is supposedly being called ‘Project Jawbreaker’ within the studio.
A supposed reveal of Tomb Raider’s next story
As reported by this trusted news site, one ‘Sacred Symbols’ has allegedly acquired the script, casting notes, and other story beats for the game. It’s said to take place in a modern setting, with Lara spurred into action by a mysterious cataclysm. At this time, she’s famous and is at the top of her game.
The alleged script also details what may be Lara Croft’s tomb raiding team. Characters by the names of Tanvi and Devendra have speaking roles, with the next problem being “something too big to handle alone”. This is supposed to create a fish-out-of-water dynamic for Lara, who’s more accustomed to tackling challenges of myth and mystery on her own.
Lara is a very well-known character, with her early runs showcasing that she can master anything that comes her way. The recent trilogy showed her path to developing many of her skills and overcoming all odds to get closer to the finished article. Now, it looks like the final pieces of the puzzle will come together to make Lara the legendary Tomb Raider.
Building out a massive media franchise
One of the main reasons why Embracer Group entered into their $300 million acquisition earlier this year is because of the power of the Tomb Raider IP. It’s huge across almost every line of entertainment, and even though the sequel to Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider movie has been killed off for now, with the big-screen IP now available, another one likely isn’t far away.
It’s not just in video gaming and movies that Lara Croft is a star. In the world of online casino gaming, Lara Croft has seamlessly become an attraction at Unibet Casino, which has one of the best casino bonuses. The game itself sees Lara take on an Ancient Egyptian mystery, but beyond that, the themes of tomb raiding and getting a bonus do share many parallels, making the transition rather natural.
Being such an exciting character, and a very popular one at that, it won’t come as a surprise that her adventures have also inspired authors through the decades. Path of the Apocalypse and The Amulet of Power are among the top picks, but few would overlook the official cookbook and travel guide! Perhaps more fittingly, Tomb Raider has also been a hot property in comic books, with Dark Horse recently running the series.
If all of that content isn’t enough, along with the new games currently in production, so too is a new Tomb Raider anime series, which will be brought to screens via Netflix. So far, it has been reported that Hayley Atwell will voice the titular tomb raider and that the story will be set after the last game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with Tasha Huo writing the series.
It will likely be a while before story beats are confirmed for the next Tomb Raider game, but there are lots to enjoy in the meantime.
